St. Johnstone have been drawn to play Alashkert FC of Armenia in the 1st qualifying round of the UEFA Europe League.

The first leg is due to be played in Armenia on Thursday 2nd July with the return leg in Perth on Thursday 9th July.

Manager of ST. JOHNSTONE FC Tommy Wright said: “The draw is what it is, we’ve got to deal with it and we will deal with it.

“We feel it would be common sense for it to be regionalised. We were hoping it was going to regionalised but it’s not so we will be making the 6,000 mile round trip to play them.

“But I’m happy the second leg will be in Perth, and that’s a really big positive for us. We’re both in the same boat with regards to preparation, so we’ll do our best to get DVDs of them playing to know what we’re up against.

“Pre-season training is going really well just now and I’m looking to get a lot out of the camp we’re on in Northern Ireland, and the match against Glenavon on Wednesday.”

The winner of St. Johnstone v Alashkert FC will face either Red Star Belgrade (Serbia) or Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan) in the 2nd round qualifiers. The away leg being on Thursday 16th July with the home leg on Thursday 23rd July.
